EddySonix®
Eddy Current Scanner Machines

EddySonix® EC-S Series Machines

EddySonix® scanner is specifically for testing quality of induction hardening of axle bars. The machine scans a bar shaft and measures Case Depth, Surface Hardness, and Run Out at any defined location. This system is designed in collaboration and for the request of well-known automotive driveline producers and has been standardized and certified.

What is EC Scanner?

Eddy Current Scanner is an NDT device that uses eddy current testing to inspect conductive materials for surface and near-surface defects. It typically consists of an encircling coil equipped with multiple electromagnetic bobbins and a control unit that processes the signals generated by the coil. The coil is passed over the surface of the material being tested, inducing eddy currents within the material.

Eddy Current Scanners Coils

At EddySonix, we design and manufacture specialized coils for the Eddy Current Scanner. These coils scan an axle bar and measure “Case Depth (ECD)” and “Surface Hardness” with very high resolution at any point along the length of the shaft.

Ferrite concentrators are used to localize the magnetic field and increase spatial resolution. A dynamic compensation algorithm is then applied to the ECD envelope signal to further increase the spatial resolution. This allows us to accurately measure the ECD at the critical points of the splines and grooves.

Green & Rapid

Using EddySonix EC-S machines significantly reduces the scrap rate, and minimizes the risk of part failure. In mass production, you can get real time feedback from the status of the production and induction hardening. After any heat change, the induction hardening parameters can be rapidly adjusted, which reduces the shutdown period of production.

The system implements various techniques to compensate the effects of unwanted factors such as temperature variations, heat-to-heat variations (cast change), and residual magnetism.

EddySonix testing is Green, and Rapid. It can replace traditional destructive testing using microhardness or direct Rockwell methods, which are very time consuming and costly, while EddySonix cycle time is 20 seconds.

Application

The system is an innovation in the precise measurement of case depth, providing detailed information and profile on how a part is heat treated. No periodic calibration is required due to advanced heat-to-heat mathematical modeling and alloy compensation. EddySonix testing is Green, and Rapid. It can replace traditional destructive testing using microhardness or direct Rockwell methods, which are very time consuming and costly, while EddySonix cycle time is 20 seconds.
